Shrink wrapping FAQs

Everything people usually ask before booking a job. Can’t see your question? Just give us a call.

What can you shrink wrap?

Boats of every size, modular and transportable buildings, industrial machinery and equipment, and palletised freight or storage items. In over 20 years we’re yet to find a job we couldn’t wrap.

Do you come to us?

Yes — Swrap is fully mobile. We travel to you anywhere in Australia and bring all the material and equipment. You just need the job clean and accessible.

Is shrink wrapping a boat worth it?

For transport, storage, overseas shipping or storm season, it’s the toughest protection going around. Unlike a loose tarp, a heat-shrunk cover is drawn tight and sealed so it won’t flap, chafe or let water, salt and dust underneath — which usually saves far more than it costs in cleaning, repairs and re-rigging.

How long does boat shrink wrap last?

Professionally fitted and vented, a shrink wrap cover typically lasts a full season and often up to around 12 months outdoors, depending on sun exposure and conditions. The film is UV-stabilised so it holds up to the weather rather than breaking down quickly.

What are the pros and cons of shrink wrapping a boat?

Pros: a tight, custom, fully weatherproof seal that breathes when vented, protects against UV, salt and dust, and travels well at highway speeds or in a container. Cons: it should be fitted properly by a pro to avoid trapping moisture, and traditional film is single-use — which is exactly why we now offer biodegradable bioWrap®.

Do you offer an eco-friendly or biodegradable wrap?

Yes. We wrap with BioAquaLife’s bioWrap®, a landfill-biodegradable shrink film. According to the manufacturer it breaks down through microbial action without leaving microplastics, and it’s lab-certified biodegradable and recyclable — with the same strength and weatherproofing as traditional wrap.

How much does shrink wrapping cost?

It depends on the size of the item and the location, so we quote each job individually. Send us the details or a few photos and we’ll give you an honest, obligation-free price.

Can you wrap items for overseas shipping?

Yes. We regularly wrap boats, machinery and oversized items for container and deck-cargo export, sealing out salt, moisture and dust for the journey.

How much notice do you need?

We prefer around 7 days, but transport and shipping dates change all the time, so we stay flexible and work to your schedule.

Which areas do you service?

We’re based in South East Queensland and cover the Gold Coast and Brisbane regularly, and we travel Australia-wide for larger jobs.
